Creating a Website ad

Build ads to serve content promoting your products and services throughout your website.

Ads are housed within campaigns, so you need at least one campaign created before attempting to create an ad.
  1. Select Campaigns in the Marketing navigation.
  2. Select Your website.
  3. Select an existing campaign by selecting the campaign name.
    Tip: Use the Search box to find a campaign using text from the campaign's name, keywords, or description.
  4. Select Create an ad.
  5. Complete the fields in the form, and then select the type of ad you want to create.
    Name your ad
    Descriptor for this specific ad.
    Size
    The pixel dimensions of the ad style to be created.
    Note: The sizes for each of your ad styles can be found in your institution's Setup Guide, provided during implementation.
    Tags
    Provide more control over where recommended ads get served within your webpages, helping you separate site sections by content or subject matter.
    Note: Tags are optional and should be kept simple, if used. An ad can be tagged with a single tag or multiple tags.
    Type
    The style of ad that will be built.
    • Image: Static image with the text on the image itself.
    • Text: Text-only ads.
    • HTML: Includes text, image, and link all within a single ad.
  6. Select Continue.
  7. Choose a situation and follow the corresponding steps.
    Situation Steps
    Image ad
    1. Select an image from Assets. You can also select Upload files to add a new image.
    2. Select Select.
    3. Enter the URL for the webpage the ad should link to.

      You can also set additional options by selecting ADVANCED OPTIONS.

      • Image alternative text: Text to be displayed when the image does not show or when read to screen readers.
      • Link title attribute: Text that shows upon hovering over the assigned link.
      • Open in new window: After the end user selects it, the link opens in a new window.
    4. Select Create.
    Note: Image ads should only be used for websites without the ability to serve HTML ads. Most sites should favor HTML ads that include a combination of images, text, and links. Please follow your institution's Setup Guide for information about which ad style to use with your website.
    Text ad
    1. Enter and format the text for your ad.
    2. Insert the link by selecting the URL, display text, title, and target.
    3. Select Save.
    Note: Text ads should only be used for websites without the ability to serve HTML ads. Most sites should favor HTML ads that include a combination of images, text, and links. Please follow your institution's Setup Guide for information about which ad style to use with your website.
    HTML ad
    1. Select the gear icon, and then select Source code button Source code.
    2. Place the HTML code template provided for this ad style and select OK.
      Note: The HTML code for each ad style can be found in your institution's Setup Guide, provided during implementation.
    3. Select OK to view the ad inside the editor.
    4. Use the functions within the editor to adjust ad content, such as image, text, and link, as needed.
      • To replace the image, highlight the initial image placed by the HTML template, and then select Insert asset. Then, select the desired image from Assets and choose Select.
        Note: If you have not yet uploaded images, see Uploading assets for more information.
      • To replace the text, delete the default text placed by the HTML template and replace it with the new text.
      • To set the link, highlight the text for the link on the ad, and then select Insert/Edit link. Then enter any specific URL, text, or target for the link and select OK.
    5. Select either Save & Preview or Save.
      • Save & Preview: Enter the URL of the webpage that includes a space for ads that matches the size of ad you have created and select Go. You will see a preview of the ad within the webpage, with styling applied. When done previewing, select Finished.
        Note: Your institution's Setup Guide that you receive during implementation contains testing URLs that you can use for previewing. You can also use any URL for a page on your site where a Banno Marketing ad of that size is being served.
      • Save: This option saves the ad content.
