Banno Business™ updates • 2FA Code Delivery through ENS • Updates to the JH Digital Terms of Use • Plus more

Together, we shape what comes next

As the year comes to a close, we have the opportunity to reflect. Collectively, we had an outstanding year full of hard work, collaboration, and great accomplishments. So what's next? Alan Kay stated, “the best way to predict the future is to invent it.” We agree. The future is ours to invent together, and what a future we have planned!

We wish you all a very happy New Year, and we cannot wait to continue building an ever-brighter tomorrow with you next year!

Updates to the Banno Digital Terms of Use

As addressed in the November Statement and our most recent Digital Monthly Meetup, we are updating the Banno Digital Terms of Use, formerly known as the "End User License Agreement (EULA)," effective February 5, 2025. On or after the effective date, all end users on the Digital Online Banking Platform will need to review and agree to the updated Digital Terms of Use to continue accessing the platform.

These changes create a more consumer-friendly explanation of Jack Henry’s role as a service provider and the end user’s rights, permitted use, and obligations when using the Digital Online Banking Platform.

You can read the updated Digital Terms of Use on the For Clients Portal. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with these updates before the effective date. Thank you for your understanding and support of the Banno Digital Platform.

For more information and answers to frequently asked questions, check out the Digital Terms of Use page on the Knowledge Base.

View employee data permission

We previously stated that the View employee data permission would be available this fall. The release target has been pushed back a bit, likely to early 2025.

Once released, if your institution is configured to limit employee visibility of other employees, you will see this new permission within Users & Groups — accessed via the ••• (More) menu in Banno Admin. For a limited time, we will honor the legacy permission as well as the new View employee data permission, giving an authorized admin from your finanicial institution time to add all applicable employees to a group with the new permission (or add the new permission to existing groups).

Additionally, at roll out, the Permissions report will include a column for this new permission, ensuring a proper audit trail.

Create, edit, and invite business users from People

We are excited to announce an upcoming feature for Banno Business banks (on SilverLake or CIF 20/20) that will enhance your workflow! Soon, it will be possible to create, invite, and manage permissions for business users within People.

Designed to streamline your processes, this new feature will make it easier and more efficient for your authorized employees to handle all business user management from a single application — moving your team another step closer to a unified back-office experience.

Stay tuned to upcoming statements, as we'll share any updates and announce our release target once we establish a clear timeframe.

Jack Henry Developer Conference

It was great seeing so many of you at the inaugural Jack Henry Devcon. The presence and engagement of financial institutions like yours made this event a resounding success.

Thank you to everyone who attended the event! From insightful sessions to thought-provoking discussions, your contributions enriched the experience for everyone involved. We hope you left feeling inspired, equipped with valuable new knowledge, and ready to tackle challenges in your field.

Enhanced Default 2FA Methods

It’s almost time to roll out the enhanced 2FA functionality in Banno People, as beta testing is underway and going well!

At roll out, your staff will see tiered security levels, which will be automatically set to Standard, on the Security screen. Authorized staff members will have access to select higher security levels as wanted for retail users and business users, respectively.

We are also introducing configurable step-up authentication methods for high-risk actions, giving you the option to require a) Passkeys or 2FA or b) Passkeys or Password when end users attempt an action that's deemed high risk. This functionality will require Banno Mobile™ version 3.19 (or newer, once subsequent versions are released).

Be on the lookout for more communication during January, as we will activate these important security updates — and enable all 2FA methods — for your financial institution once beta testing is complete. No support case is needed. We encourage your staff to review this Security documentation on the Knowledge Base for details on 2FA, passkeys, high-risk actions, and any 2FA methods that your financial institution isn't yet using.

You can also learn more about these upcoming changes during the special-edition Security Meetup on Friday, January 24, 2025.

Banno People navigation adjustments

To account for the addition of several security settings, as well as to ensure clear and accurate terminology in the app, we are making a few changes to the navigation within Banno People.

What's changing

Currently, after navigating to People > Settings > Security, your authorized employees can access the following settings on the Security screen:

  • 2-step verification
  • Initial 2-step verification enrollment
  • High risk actions on new device

Soon, the Security settings button will be elevated to a more prominent position in the menu — alongside the Settings button and other primary navigation items. At that point, your authorized employees can click the Security button to reveal the following sub-navigation options:

  • 2-step verification
  • High risk action methods
  • High risk action blocking
  • Initial 2-step enrollment

Converting UI labels to Terms of Use

Another small change you will notice is that we're replacing all references to EULA with Terms of Use throughout Banno People, including the title and URL of the page formerly known as EULA. This change establishes consistency with the Terms of Use document itself.

Release timing

Our release targets for the features mentioned in this article are as follows:

  • Converting EULA references to Terms of Use: Live now!
  • Enhanced Default 2FA Methods: early 2025
  • Navigation changes: available with Enhanced Default 2FA Methods

Recurring Wires on Mobile

Managing your wires is about to get even easier and more convenient! Banno Business users with the Transmit recurring wires and Edit recurring wires permissions will soon be able to create and manage recurring wires from any device. This feature lets users create a recurring wire from any template — as well as edit those wires prior to their scheduled transmit date.

Identity App available soon for all Banno banks and credit unions

All financial institutions on the Banno Platform™ will soon have access to the Identity App, part of the Unified Identity Service (UIS), which is designed to provide a secure, user-friendly application for managing your consumer users.

Currently, your authorized staff can manage security settings such as password resets, 2-step verification, passkeys, and devices in Banno People™. At roll out, they can manage these security settings in either the new Identity App or in People — though, it's important to know that this functionality will eventually be removed from People.

For more information about UIS or the Identity App, head over to this Knowledge Base article!

🎗️Forget-me-nots

Here are a few things to remember this month!

Banno Mobile Version 3.19

In the November Statement, we mentioned that Banno Mobile 3.19 should hit the app stores in early December. Unfortunately, our engineering teams ran into a couple of challenges with the build that are causing a delay. Our new target release timeframe is the first week of January. As soon as the version 3.19 is release-ready, we will publish the corresponding release notes on the For Clients portal, begin the app store uploads, and send an SLA announcement.

In the meantime, we want to remind financial institutions to check their Developer Site for any pending Apple Agreements, as these must be accepted to avoid further delays in the process. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

Minimum version requirements for browsers and operating systems

Once Banno Mobile 3.19 is released, the minimum supported Android operating system (OS) version will change to Android OS 9. In March 2025, our minimum-supported Banno Mobile app version will become Mobile 3.19.

If so, we have good news for you! Our Developer Relations team has published a new video, Upgrading the Banking Experience with the Digital Toolkit, to describe how all of those things can work together to improve your accountholders' banking experience.

Quick actions

Heads up! Your Banno team is working on a new way to configure your quick actions within the Banno Online and Mobile banking environments. The first phase of this project will allow you to rename, reorder, and omit the current set of global-level quick actions as you see fit for your financial institution.

We recognize that these actions are not one size fits all, so the first phase of this project is allowing you the freedom to determine what works best for your end users! Stay tuned for upcoming announcements in the statement as our team gets closer to launching this feature.

Banno 2FA code delivery system migrating to ENS in February 2025

As discussed during the December 13 Digital Banking Meetup, Banno will begin sending 2FA codes via our Enterprise Notification System (ENS) in February 2025. This change will have zero impact on the vast majority of end users.

What is ENS?

Designed to send critical notifications and communications seamlessly across an organization, ENS is our contracted platform that ensures the appropriate person or systems receive timely and relevant information about events, updates, or alerts. Such alerts include 2FA codes sent (as SMS text messages) to end users who select Phone/text as their 2FA code delivery method.

Note that ENS is the same reliable system Banno currently uses to send end users certain other notifications, such as account balances, new device registrations, and new payee creations.

What to expect

Today, Banno relies on a third-party integration to send 2FA codes as SMS texts, and we have historically absorbed the associated costs. The migration to ENS will not directly result in additional Banno charges; however, we want to be transparent that you should anticipate an increased volume of SMS texts sent through ENS, and that increased usage will impact your ENS costs.

We understand that, despite our efforts to minimize the lift on your end, this is a significant change that will spark many questions. To provide a more-comprehensive understanding of the migration to ENS, we have prepared an extensive FAQ document, complete with answers to numerous questions submitted during last Friday’s Digital Banking Meetup.

Finally, you will have the chance to ask any further questions during the special-edition Security Meetup with Head of Engineering Chad Killingsworth and Chief Digital & Technology Officer Ben Metz on Friday, January 24, 2025.

Wire Transfer migration to ISO 20022

As you are no doubt well aware, the Federal Reserve is transitioning from FAIM wires to ISO 20022 on March 10, 2025. Our teams at Jack Henry are actively working on the updated formatting to ensure that we are aligned with the new guidelines and remain compliant.

We’ll continue to share more information as we have it. For now, you can read the Banno Business Wires article on the Knowledge Base for more details on the changes you can expect to see. You can also visit our new ISO 20022 resource center on the For Clients portal for regular updates.

Interested in testing wires formatted for ISO 20022? Great! Please create a core support case to SilverLake, so they can confirm that your financial institution meets the testing requirements. If so, they will spin up a testing environment for your team and let you get started early next year.

View Positive Pay ACH Filters

Attention SilverLake Business customers! Your business users with the Work ACH Exceptions permission can now view their Positive Pay ACH filters directly in Banno Online. This feature lets them see the ACH filter rules your financial institution has configured for each of their accounts. Additionally, business users can view any other filters that apply to their accounts, including specific companies that define each ACH filter rule.

What about Banno Mobile, you ask? The ability to view Positive Pay ACH filters is coming soon to Banno Mobile. Stay tuned for updates!

New feature • Banno People™

Feature changes for high-risk action blocking

As we announced last month, we have implemented a small change that gives you more control over the waitlist setting. Your employees with the Manage security settings permission can now choose how long new devices will be waitlisted for. The seven-day default remains in place, but it is now configurable upon selecting the “waitlist” setting.

In addition, we now treat the action of accessing the iPay SSO as a high-risk action. Users attempting to do so will be presented with a high-risk challenge, and the action will be blocked if one of the blocking settings is active.

Coming soon • Banno Apps™

Enhanced security 'profile' updates

As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the concept of Identity across all of our products, we're implementing updates to existing screens. These updates will empower consumer users to easily modify their security- and identity-related information whenever necessary.

One key enhancement is the introduction of Recovery email and Phone settings, along with ID Name, within both Mobile and Online screens. This information will be distinct from any core or product-specific details associated with the user, thereby providing an added layer of security and flexibility.

These changes reflect our commitment to providing a seamless and secure user experience while also empowering users to manage their own identity information effectively. We believe this approach will enhance user trust and confidence in the platform, while also streamlining the process of account recovery and identity verification.

Support for modifying user profile & business details

We're pleased to announce that business users at SilverLake and CIF 20/20 banks will soon be able to modify their personal profile details as well as their business contact details directly in Banno Online.

Previously, business users needed to use NetTeller for these updates, but with this new feature, managing personal and business information will be more seamless and convenient. This enhancement will save time and streamline their banking experience, allowing them to focus more on their business.

Look for this new feature in the near future!

Treasury Management Mobile Experience — Loan Payments

Effective December 19, Treasury Management Mobile Experience users will be able to make loan payments and view loan payment activity.

A project to allow users to configure their mobile experience dashboard is also underway, and with that will come new dashboard widgets.

If you haven't already selected your date to move to the TM Mobile Experience, what are you waiting for?

Extended: Scope management changes coming soon

This is an update to our previous announcement regarding changes to API scope management. To ensure a smooth transition, we have decided to extend the implementation date of the new API scope management system.

Starting January 21, 2025, all new consumer applications will require defined scopes to enhance security and user privacy.

What are API scopes?

API scopes control access to specific parts of your API, ensuring that only authorized users and applications can access the necessary data.

Key takeaways

  • New applications: Any consumer application added after January 21 must have defined scopes.
  • Existing applications: Existing applications are legacied and can continue using all scopes. However, if you edit a legacied application after January 21, you must define its required scopes.

We understand that changes like these require time and adjustment, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to improve security for everyone.

Coming soon • Banno Admin™

Jack Henry Identity (JHID)

Built on the Jack Henry Authentication Framework, JHID is the new, centralized system for authenticating your employees and other enterprise users who need to access protected resources.

The implementation of an enterprise-level authentication service will pave the way for the future back-office SSO experience. This service will integrate seamlessly with Active Directory and Google Identity.

JHID will protect your financial institution, employees, and end users by utilizing industry standards for authentication:

We will provide updates in future statements and announce roll-out plans when JHID is near completion.
