Sunsetting support for Authy
In recent months, we’ve communicated often that the third-party platform behind the Authy App is phasing out the product and that we must soon migrate from Authy to Voice and Text (SMS) messages for one-time passcode (OTP) delivery. Note that OTP codes are one method of two-factor authentication (2FA), which is required to access our apps and to perform high-risk actions.
As communicated in an SLA email we sent on March 26, this migration of OTP delivery methods will occur during our scheduled maintenance window on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
Affected end users
Your end users who previously opted to receive OTP codes via the Authy App will begin receiving their codes via voice or SMS messages delivered on Jack Henry’s Enterprise Notification System (ENS).
We are unable to provide a list of Authy users; however, any disruption to your support staff should be fairly minimal, as less than 1% of all Banno users had selected Authy App as their preferred 2FA code delivery method.
The user experience
As noted in the February Statement and previous announcements, we encourage you to inform your end users that Authy support is ending soon and that those currently using Authy for 2FA/OTP codes will instead receive the codes as voice or SMS messages (sent from a dedicated phone number for your bank or credit union).
These users can also choose to register Authy as an authenticator app, and if they do so before the migration on April 1, they shouldn't see any notable change in their user experience. Please be advised, however, that the impending Authy App sunset, which is not within Jack Henry’s control, will obviously disrupt delivery of 2FA/OTP codes if end users do not select another method before the app is retired altogether.
For more information on this migration and the user experience involved, please read the “Transitioning from Authy” section of the Security enhancements FAQ on the Knowledge Base.
